Puyallup-Sumner Area's Quality Courses Drive Growing Interest in Golf

Puyallup Golf

The Puyallup/Sumner area offers golfers an abundance of courses with breathtaking scenery.

Golf courses in the Puyallup/Sumner area are way above par – and that’s a good thing.

The popularity of golf in this region continues to rise because of the top-notch courses that are located here.

“Some of the nicest golf destinations in the entire Pacific Northwest are situated in Puyallup‚ Sumner and Orting‚” says Tammy Wilson‚ events coordinator with the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce.

One of those venues is Sumner Meadows Golf Links‚ an 18-hole par 72 course that would make the Scottish inventors of golf proud. The links course features amenities such as deep bunkers‚ smallish greens‚ some thick rough and a flat landscape that makes the ball roll a long way in the fairways.

“The Chamber is hosting our first-ever golf tournament in 2008‚ and we have decided to have it at Sumner Meadows‚” Wilson says. “It’s just a nice course nestled in a beautiful valley‚ plus it is open year-round to the public.”

The Chamber golf tournament is scheduled for June 5‚ 2008.

In Orting‚ High Cedars Golf Club boasts two scenic sites in the shadow of Mount Rainier – an 18-hole Cedars course‚ which is a par 71 measuring 6‚436 yards‚ and a nine-hole Executive Nine layout‚ which is a cozy 1‚566-yard par 29.

Meanwhile‚ Puyallup is home to four nine-hole golf courses‚ with one operating as private and the other three public. The private Linden Golf & Country Club opened in 1926 and measures 3‚075 yards with a par of 36.

The public Lipoma Firs Golf Course includes three individual nine-hole layouts that can be played in three different 18-hole combinations. The Blue course at Lipoma Firs is a par 36 that measures 3‚385 yards‚ while the Green course is a 3‚302-yard par 36‚ and the Gold course is a 3‚420-yard par 36.
